Candella / Green Cigars

These cigars are popular among many smokers.

Green cigars are latter-day oddities, but they once were the preferred smokes of Americans, so popular in the United States that cigars with candela wrappers became known as American Market Selection. (Natural cigars, the ones that make up the vast majority of today’s cigar market, were dubbed English Market Selection.) From about 1958 to the early 1970s, Americans smoked billions of cigars, and nearly all of them were as green as your front lawn after a May rain. The popular tint was not a function of the use of underage leaf, however. It resulted from a unique process by which the wrapper tobacco was being cured.

“I love ‘em,” wrote Bloofington. “Had a candela for the first time just the other day,” wrote Humordor. “This is a surprisingly good smoke. Going to an event at the tobacco store tonight and I’ll probably pick up a few more.” BigTom47 wrote: “I have found that they are a very nice golf cigar. Since they are milder than most of the cigars I smoke, I can still putt with the cigar in my mouth.”

Cigar Lighting

Cigar Lighting

Lighting a cigar is as easy as people say it is but when you run into some problems it may be a pain to fix. So today I present to you, a simple refined process on hwo to get a great burn on your cigar.

If you’re using a lighter or a match the process stays pretty much the same. Lighter are a great tool and very convient but a match is more accesible and en masse. if you’re using a match, make sure you wait a second or two while the chemical on the tip of the match is completely burned out. This will reduce the chance of getting that first nasty puff taste. From here on, the process is the same as using a lighter. After you cut the head of the cigar, turn it at a 45 degree angle and rotate slowly about 1 inch away from the flame. Keep turning until the foot of your cigar until the foot has been completely toasted evenly. Make sure the entire edge of the foot is toasted to the same degree. Once toasted, put the cigar in your mouth and take one nice puff atleast 1 inch away from the flame. As you release air pressure from the cigar, a flame should shoot up at the foot. turn your cigar over and blow on the foot to make sure the embers spread across the wrapper evenly. Repeat this process until you have a perfect burn!

Happy Smoking!

CRA Announcement

Did you know Don Juan Cigar Company is apart of the CRA? don’t know what the CRA is? Check out their mission here and read all about it! Read more about your cigar rights.

Recently the CRA has been fighting the FDA from bringing the hammer down on Cigar smokers. “What can the FDA do to us?” you may be thinking. Imagine walking into your local cigar shop finding out that the walk-in humidor is under lock and key! You wouldn’t even be able to check out what it is you may be buying. FDA also plans on establishing manufacturing restrictions that will ruin the flavour and aroma of premium cigars! Taxes on cigars would go up on top of all of this.

So when you visit the CRA, send in your petition to support HR 1639. Protect your liberty!
